Description

This numbers-matching 1959 356A Sunroof Coupe, recently refinished in its original color combination of Silvermetallic (Silver Metallic) over Red, represents the final year of the 356A model era. The 1959 model, considered by many 356 enthusiasts to be the most desirable, provided a number of improvements over earlier models including a more powerful Type 546 engine with Zenith twin-throat carburetors, the synchronized 716 transmission, and ZF steering box that improved handling. This 356A coupe has been upgraded with a dual master brake cylinder and 12-volt electrical system. The floors were replaced and the transmission rebuilt by a previous owner. There was no evidence of accident damage. The current owner rebuilt the engine to factory specifications.

The classic Silver Metallic finish of this 356A is complemented by its optional factory-installed Golde sliding sunroof, new 15” Vredestein tires on painted steel wheels, chrome hubcaps, and color-matched front and rear bumpers with chrome bumper guards.

The interior, completely redone in red leather, features leather seats with red corduroy insets, German beige carpeting and a new headliner.

This 356A is powered by an air-cooled, four-cylinder 1.6L engine that develops as much as 60 HP at 4500 RPM, and 81 lbs.-ft torque at 2800 RPM. Power is directed to the rear wheels through a synchronized four-speed manual transmission. Braking is accomplished by freshly refurbished drum brakes.
