Description
This 1964 Porsche 356SC Coupe, refinished in non-metallic, period-correct Slate Grey with new black fabric top, over a vibrant red leather interior, is presently in the final stages of restoration. Air-Cooled Classics offers the buyer the opportunity to personalize final touches, from wheel choices and side mirrors to audio preferences. This SC Coupe was stripped to bare metal, dipped, and rehabbed before being professionally refinished in Slate Grey, Steve McQueen’s favorite color and choice for his 911 in the movie classic, Le Mans. All brightwork has been renewed or replaced. The 356SC represents the final iteration of the 356 model line. The SC, or Super Carrera, was the high-performance version, featuring the most powerful push-rod type engine Porsche had produced to date.
Its exterior, grey with the slightest hint of blue, is complemented by new Vredestein tires and GT Deco molding and trim. At this point, this SC has a slightly outlaw-ishattitude—another tribute to Steve McQueen.
The interior features a freshly upholstered red leather interior and Carrera 2-type, wood-rimmed steering wheel.
The replacement 1.6L flat-six, air-cooled engine of this 356SC produces up to 95 HP at 5800 RPM and 88 lbs.-ft torque at 4200 RPM. Power is directed to the rear wheels through a 4-speed synchronized manual transmission. Newly-developed in 1964, ATE disc brakes replaced older-styled drum brakes, providing greater stopping power.
