Description
This recently restored 1965 356SC Coupe represents the last iteration of the 356. This final model offered a number of improvements over the 356B including an air intake vent on the cowl that provided better ventilation to the cabin, and a modified heating system that allowed fresh air to be blended and directed with heat the engine produced. An electric tach replaced the mechanical version. The fuel tank was revised to a flat profile, becoming the floor of the trunk. Twin engine grilles improved cooling. Built for model years 1964 and 1965, two versions of the 356 were available—the standard C and the upscale SC. While the standard C 1.6L engine was fitted with Zenith carburetors reportedly producing 75 HP, the SC benefited from Solex 40 PII carburetors. The SC generated up to 95 HP, the highest power output in the 356 pushrod engine series. With receipts dating back to the 1970s, this SC appears to have spent much of its life in New Mexico and Southern California. Refinished in its original color, Irish Green, with a newly upholstered black leather interior and new brightwork, this numbers-matching model (Kardex included in sale) is freshly serviced, including a valve adjustment, and ready for spirited driving as well as concours competition.
Its glistening Irish Green exterior, a color so treasured by Porsche, that it was chosen to memorialize the one millionth Porsche built, is complemented by new Vredestein tires mounted on period-correct chrome wheels with Porsche Crest hubcaps, color-matched bumpers with chrome bumper guards, chrome/rubber bumper trim and lower side trim, and a driver’s side mirror. The floor pan was replaced (photos available) during the restoration.
The interior, redone in black leather, features new carpeting and headliner. All VDO gauges work properly.
This 356SC is powered by a four-cylinder, air-cooled 1.6L engine that produces up to 95 HP at 5800 RPM, and 91 lbs.-ft torque at 4200 RPM. Power is directed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. With an updated dual master brake system, its four-wheel disc brakes(ATE)provide fade-free stopping power that is superior to the drum brakes of previous generations.
